Brotéria

The project developed for Brotéria is set within a context of great historical and symbolic significance. Located in Bairro Alto, it occupies a 16th-century building that once served as the residence of the Counts of Tomar, the headquarters of the Royal British Club, and, later, the Lisbon Municipal Newspaper Library. Today, Brotéria stands as a cultural center founded by Portuguese Jesuits, open to engaging with the city and dedicated to contemporary reflection through a library, bookstore, gallery, café, and space for artistic and spiritual programming.

For the library, we developed a circular wooden service desk that incorporates a sofa and functions as a spatial hub, fostering a welcoming and informal atmosphere.

The intervention meets the functional needs of Brotéria without compromising the building’s historical identity, asserting itself through precise gestures and honest materials.
